Innovation in Preserving Experience 

Introducing EMAReX – the solution to the challenge of preserving the experience of those with a wealth of pioneering experience. Unlike knowledge and information, experience requires a different stimulus to be retrieved. Using the appropriate stimulus for experience can help teams generate valuable insights and achieve insightful collective convergence. With EMAReX, teams can make their experiences come alive, generating experiential insights that can be used for better decision-making processes.

Background

This solution is a result of a failed system around 1994.  Then, a project was commissioned to preserve the experience of people who were retiring with wealth of pioneering experience.  Knowledge Management (KM) technology was used to architect and capture the experience obtained through a series of interviews and documentations.

What Was Learned

The brain manages experience, knowledge and information quite differently, and are compartmentally processed.

The retrieval of experience is a Prompt-Response process. Different prompts are needed for different compartment to respond.  Most practiced is the use of query to stimulate the information compartment to respond with facts, but that is about all a query can do; it is not able to solicit response from the other compartments. Similarly, the prompt for knowledge compartment is topic; a topic will activate the knowledge compartment in search of an explanation. Interestingly, the prompt for experience is concept, and the response from the experience compartment manifest itself into insights.

Conceptual Prism 

In order to extract a wide range of experience, a generic conceptual prism was designed to structurally refracts any subject into its conceptual components, which in turn can stimulate the dormant experience related to the subject.  These rejuvenated in-context experience when ontologically organised, form the experiential insights of the subject, a product that very few could match without using this tool.

Current Problems

We may think that experience is shared over a team discussion of problems and queries, but without proper conceptual stimuli, the exchanges are at most mere knowledge of their experience.  Problems and queries do little to help members relate to their experience, let alone extract and articulate in forms that others could benefit.

By using the appropriate stimulus for experience, the team can generate insights from their experience, and these insights can in turn be used as concept to draw out more insights from different experience.  Session conducted in this manner allows the team to achieved very insightful collective convergence.

We developed an application to tap the collective knowledge.

An application has been developed to tap the collective knowledge. The result obtained from the Artificial General Intelligent big data is amazingly impressive and can be used as a start state virtual insights to kick off an insighting session with a team of experienced incumbents to develop the single coherent team insight.

Making Team Experiences Come Alive

EMAReX is used to deliver three types of services, first as a non-intrusive coach to elevate and maintain team discussions at an experiential level without imposing changes to main train of thoughts. Secondly, to introduce the structured conceptual prism into the team discussion and use that as a tool to develop a coherent team insight for better decisioning process.  Third, a full-scale implementation of EMAReVi with a virtual insights as a start and then customise it with local experiences of the team.

Develop a single coherent picture from insights extracted from experienced team to enlarge the Known of subject enabling effective collective decisioning. 

Extra-Experiential Effectiveness – Harvesting insights from other giants

Jump-start with Virtual Insights from Others with EMAReVi and reformulate the effectiveness of the outcome, with the local insights from the experienced team raises the level of the coherency and richer collective experiential known of the subject.
